What exactly does a chiropractic adjustment do?
Chiropractic corrections restore the mobility of the vertebrae and joints. This improves your movement pattern, optimizes signal transmission of the nervous system, and reduces pain and muscle tension in a natural, durable way.
What is that sound?
During an adjustment the pressure in the joint changes. This can release gas bubbles, which causes the audible "crack" sound, comparable to cracking your knuckles. This sound is generally harmless and not a sign of damage. The goal is restoring the correct position and function of the joints.
Does a treatment hurt?
Chiropractic adjustments are remarkably comfortable, despite what you may have seen on YouTube. Our practitioners are university-trained to apply corrections as gently and efficiently as possible.
Is chiropractic care safe?
Chiropractic care is exceptionally safe when performed by a registered, academically trained chiropractor. The risk of complications is extremely low, certainly compared to invasive treatments or long-term medication use.
Which complaints can a chiropractor help with?
Although we are often associated with back and neck pain, our field is much broader. We treat a wide range of musculoskeletal complaints, including headache, sciatica, carpal tunnel syndrome, and jaw complaints. Our whole-body approach can also help with complaints that may surprise you.
Do I need a referral from my GP?
No, you do not need a referral. We are first-line care providers for musculoskeletal complaints: you can come directly to us. If your complaint requires care outside our field, we refer you to the right specialist.
Can a chiropractor help with a herniated disc?
Absolutely. Many techniques are extremely gentle and do not involve any "cracking". Every situation is assessed individually to determine which method is best. Where available we review MRI images, and combined with a physical examination we advise the optimal approach. Safety always comes first.
Can a chiropractor help with severe back pain that radiates into the arms or legs?
Absolutely. Back pain is one of the most common reasons to seek chiropractic care. Our approach targets the cause rather than the symptoms. Through corrections we relieve pressure on nerves, reduce muscle tension, and improve the function of the spine. We also give advice on exercises, ergonomics, and lifestyle to prevent future complaints.
